A bedroom with good feng shui is thought to help you sleep better and is even said to strengthen your romantic relationships. Here are some simple feng shui bedroom tips - incorporate them in your bedroom layout to promote wellbeing and happiness.
1. Your Bed
The best position for the bed is diagonally opposite the door. The ideal bed placement allows you to see the bedroom door while lying in bed without being directly in front or in line with it. According to feng shui bedroom tips, having a view of the door without being too close to it gives you a sense of safety while you rest and is conducive to relaxation and sleep. If you do not have a reasonable view of the door whilst lying in bed, a mirror should be placed to reflect anyone entering.
The foot of the bed shouldn't point out the bedroom door. In feng shui, this position is known as the "coffin" position (in China coffins are placed in that position whilst waiting collection.) This position puts your bed in the main path of traffic, which isn't relaxing. If this position is the only one possible, a footboard, high bench or table at the foot of the bed can buffer the effects. It just shouldn't be so high that it blocks your view of the door.
If there are two people sleeping in the bed, there should be equal space on both sides of the bed so each person can get into and out of bed easily... One of the obvious feng shui bedroom tips.
The head of the bed should be placed against a wall rather than under a window or away from the wall. A bed against a window is thought to cause chi (energy) to enter and leave through the window, resulting in restless sleep.
If your mattress is showing signs of age, get a new one. Mattresses hold a lot of stagnant energy. Also, after 10 years a typical mattress starts to lose its shape which logically leads to an uncomfortable sleep.
Ideally, beds should be raised off the floor with enough space for air to circulate underneath. Storage drawers full of old clothes and crates of magazines stored under the bed create a stagnant energy which is not desirable.
If possible, choose a bed made of natural material. Wood is the usual choice. Water beds are not recommended because they cause conflict between Fire, the electrical sources, and Water, as well as creating instability while you sleep.
Headboards offer support but should always be tightly secured.
Treat yourself to high quality sheets from natural fibers. Good linen is also very important in creating harmonious feng shui energy.
Finally, your bed shouldn't be positioned under a structural or decorative beam or ceiling fan. According to feng shui, this isn't good for either health or relationships. If moving your bed isn't an option, feng shui practitioners sometimes recommend hanging a bamboo flute (a special feng shui device) from the beam to offset the effects.
2. De-Clutter Your Bedroom
No one really wants a cluttered bedroom, and according to feng shui, clutter can block the flow of chi, lead to stagnation, disturb sleep and generally prevent things in your life from moving forward...
So change the pattern of things in your life by clearing your bedroom. Excellent DIY stress relief!
Your bedroom should not become a storage area or an office, nor serve any function other than sleep or romance...
Most of us have to have wardrobes and drawers in our bedrooms – keep these tidy and clear of clutter. You must be able to close the doors at night.
Lighten your emotional and your physical load by periodically getting rid of clothes and stuff you no longer use. Garments strewn over chairs or beds for days on end constitute clutter and worry you psychologically since you know you have to deal with them eventually. So keep your room tidy!
Do not let the entrance to your bedroom door be blocked with clutter since it is the area associated with opportunities.
Breathe life into your relationship by clearing up the energy that is stuck with clutter. Make space in your bedroom if you are looking for a new relationship. Create mental and emotional space so as to promote improved mood and increased energy.
And bedside tables and dressers should be organized. Avoid piling books on top of them.
3. Electrical Equipment In Your Bedroom
Electrical equipment in the bedroom is one of the important feng shui bedroom tips.
If you can... move electrical equipment out of your bedroom.Firstly, it detracts from the main functions of the room. And secondly, the harmful electro-magnetic waves that are generated can have a negative effect on you while you sleep...This is very real, it happened to me. And I was unaware of the cause of the disturbed sleep until we moved the television out of the bedroom and into the lounge...
If you have to keep your TV in your bedroom, consider putting it in an armoire and keeping the doors closed while you sleep. A piece of fabric covering the TV at night will also do the trick as long as it's not sloppy.
If there's no other place for your exercise gear or workspace, consider getting a screen to block them from view when not in use.
Ionizers positioned close to a bed present a serious threat, but even clock radios send out waves over a considerable distance.
Electric blankets are a real problem because they encase the bed in an electromagnetic field. They should be unplugged from the wall before anyone gets into bed.
All electrical items should be on the opposite side of the room from the bed, and this includes electrical clocks. One advantage of this is that it makes the snooze button redundant. You find more time to eat a proper breakfast in the morning and are more punctual in starting your day when you have to get out of bed to turn off the alarm.
I am surprised at how many people have telephones next to their beds! Phones have NO place in the bedroom. They prevent relaxation and quiet time. You are entitled to some time for yourself without interruption.
Feng shui bedroom tips suggest that mirrors in your bedroom should not face the bed.
You shouldn't be able to see yourself reflected in a mirror while lying in bed. The Chinese believe that the soul leaves the body while we sleep and might be disconcerted to come across itself in the mirror. I think that it might be that most of us are not at our best in the mornings and would not want our reflection to be the first thing that we see on waking.
According to feng shui, if you aren't sleeping well, a mirror in your bedroom may be the culprit. Mirrors are thought to bounce energy around the bedroom, which may result in poor sleep and restlessness. They're also said to amplify worries.
If in doubt, cover mirrors with a piece of fabric when you go to sleep.
In contrast, strategically placed mirrors facing a wonderful view will draw it into the room and enhance the energy.
Images in your bedroom should be in pairs, particularly in the Relationships corner of the room (click here for bagua or template to work out the 'relationship area' in your bedroom.)
Images of a solitary figure in a single person’s bedroom indicateloneliness, as does a single bed. It is very possible to feel isolated and insecure even in a relationship. If this is the case, hang a picture of a couple on the wall and display pairs of objects.
The experts say that photographs of parents, friends or children have no place in a couple’s bedroom.
When selecting art for your bedroom, avoid sad or upsetting images.
According to feng shui bedroom tips, another type of image to becautious about is one that has a waterfall, lake or river as the dominant theme. Although water generally symbolizes money in feng shui and is thought to be beneficial in other areas of the home, water in the bedroom may promote financial or relationship losses.
If you do have an inspiring, relaxing or uplifting piece of art, one of the best places for it is on the wall opposite your bed. It's the first thing you'll see when you wake up in the morning and the last thing you'll see when you go to bed at night.
Best feng shui bedroom tips for the bedroom art is to choose images that you want to see happening in your life.
According to feng shui bedroom tips, warm colours reminiscent of skin tones are thought to be soothing, such as cream, peach, beige, yellow, coral, tan or cocoa.
Light blues, greens and lavenders are considered to be restful and conducive to sleep. But too many cool colours, such as greys, blues or stark whites are believed to interfere with relaxation.
A balance of 50% warm skin tones and 50% cool blues, greens or lavenders is often suggested.
7. Lighting In Your Bedroom
Good quality, appropriate lighting is very important. Light is our number 1 nutrient and one of the strongest manifestation of energy.
Have several levels of lighting in your bedroom, or use a dimmer switch to adjust the energy accordingly. Makes sense – poor lighting is bad for reading but too much lighting can inhibit romance...
Candles are great feng shui bedroom lighting, but be sure to buy candles with no toxins.
Open the windows often or use a good quality air-purifier to keep the air fresh and full of oxygen. Be mindful of the quality of air in your bedroom. You cannot have good feng shui in your bedroom if the air you breathe in is stale and full of pollutants.
Please note that plants in the bedroom are not good feng shui, unless your bedroom is fairly large and the plants are located far from the bed.
Don't feel overwhelmed if your bedroom has many of the feng shui don'ts...
