Natural Constipation Remedies

Natural constipation remedies, home remedy constipation help, simple constipation natural remedies for you.

About constipation and how to treat constipation naturally.

The first thing to remember about constipation is that bowel movement patterns are entirely personal! So what might be normal for you, might mean constipation for someone else. This is a good reason to try natural constipation remedies before heading for the commercial laxatives. Medications for constipation do NOT offer a permanent solution for constipation. They may help with symptoms and give you some temporary relief from blocked up bowels, but unfortunately that is as far they go.

Constipation is medically defined as having fewer than three stools per week and severe constipation as less than one stool per week. Constipation usually is caused when the stool moves too slowly through the colon.

You may be constipated for any number of reasons, but trying a natural remedy could just bring you relief.

Natural Constipation Remedies

    • Have Enough Fibre In Your Diet

One of the major causes of constipation is insufficient fiber in the diet. It is quite easy to remedy this, and you will not only help your digestion but also be reducing your risk of other suffering from ailments.

Insoluble fiber in your diet gives stools bulk and a soft texture, making them easier to pass.grains

To increase fiber, add more fresh fruit and vegetables, and whole grains to your diet. Make sure to include wheat bran, brown rice, or whole grain bread.

Prunes and figs are great laxatives and can be added to breakfast or eaten as a snack.

Coarse miller’s bran is an easy way to add fiber. Some people need just a tablespoon a day while others need up to half a cup. Sprinkle it on fruit or yoghurt or mix it into cereal or juice.

Another option is to sprinkle one teaspoon of ground flaxseeds over any meal. They can be found in packages at the health food store or some grocery stores.

Fiber supplements are a simple way of adding fiber to your diet. Popular ones are psyllium husk supplements such as Metamucil.

Remember to add fiber gradually to avoid bloating and gas. Also, be sure to drink enough water otherwise fiber can have the opposite effect and be constipating.

    • Drink Plenty of Fluids

An average of 6 – 8 glasses of water a day is the general rule. You cannot expect your body to function well without enough water. Avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeinated drinks such as coffee and cola drinks – these can be dehydrating and add to your problem.

    • Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a healing art that is a pleasure to incorporate into your daily life. Use essential oils as a home remedy for constipation.

Use Black Pepper, Lemon-Grass, Marjoram, Orange and Rosemary.

Add a combination of a few drops to a tablespoon of almond oil, or any other carrier oil, and do a gentle tummy massage. Treat yourself to an aromatherapy bath – add a few drops to your bath water and relax!

    • Exercise Often

grainsRegular exercise is an activity that will help combat constipation. Just a 20 minute walk four or five times a week could make all the difference, and can help prevent a number of other illnesses and generally add to your good health.

Exercise makes your whole system work more efficiently and helps the food move through your bowel more easily.

    • Include Aloe Vera

This is one of my favourite natural constipation remedies. Aloe vera gel capsules, which you can find in any natural food health store, are a good natural way to encourage your bowel to work. Aloe vera juice is also a great daily supplement to ensure good health. I recommend Aloe Vera 5000mg 100SG

    • Probiotics

Probiotics are live microbial organisms that occur naturally in the digestive tract. The largest group of probiotic bacteria in the intestine is lactic acid bacteria, of which Lactobacillus acidophilus, found in yogurt with live cultures, is the best known. Probiotics are thought to aid digestion and prevent constipation by enhancing the protective barrier of the digestive tract.

Yeast is also a probiotic substance. Probiotics are also available as dietary supplements. Have a look at Align Digestive Care Probiotic Supplement.

    • Stay Regular

Don’t put off going to the toilet when you have the urge! Take time to use the toilet regularly. Often a change in routine causes constipation. In order to have good regular bowel movements, you have to give your system a chance to work. The longer you delay when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement, the more water gets absorbed from your stool and the harder it becomes to pass it.

Causes of Constipation

It is important for you to deal with the causes of constipation, in conjunction with natural constipation remedies.

Make sure that you are aware of the following causes and see if they could be causing your constipation:

      • Increased intake of milk or milk products. Cut down on milky foods.
      • Pregnancy
      • High-protein, low-fiber diets. Most people should consume 25-35 grams of fiber a day.
      • Constipation is more common in older people. So growing older could be the cause of your constipation and a change in diet is needed.
      • Drinking inadequate water or non-caffeinated beverages.
      • Overuse of laxatives.
      • Some medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, diabetes, irritable bowel syndrome, scleroderma, colon or rectal concerns such as polyps, rectal prolapse and hemorrhoids can be a cause of constipation. It is essential to get the opinion of a doctor of your constipation persists even after trying natural remedies.
