10 Reasons To Smile

  1. Smiling Changes Our Mood
Next time you are feeling down, try smiling. There’s a good chance you mood will change for the better. Smiling can actually trick the body into helping you change your mood.
  2. Smiling Relieves Stress
Stress really does show in our faces. Smiling helps to prevent us from looking tired, worn down, and overwhelmed. Smile – and the stress should lessen and you’ll be more able to take action.
  3. Smiling Makes Us Attractive
Aren’t you drawn to people who smile? There definitely is an attraction factor. We want to get to know a smiling person, and frowns, scowls and grimaces all push people away. So, SMILE!
  4. Smiling Boosts Your Immune System
When you smile, immune function improves. Perhaps it is because you are more relaxed. So, prevent the flu and colds by smiling.
  5. Smiling Lowers Your Blood Pressure
When you smile, there is a measurable reduction in your blood pressure. Give it a try if you have a blood pressure monitor at home. Sit for a few minutes, take a reading. Then smile for a minute and take another reading while still smiling. Do you notice a difference?
  6. Smiling Is Catching
Smile – and you will draw people to you. A smiling person lightens up the room, changes the moods of others, and makes things happier.
  7. Smiling Makes You Look Successful
Put on a smile at meetings and appointments and people will react to you differently. Smiling people do appear more confident, are more likely to be promoted. Try it!
  8. Smiling Makes You Look Younger
The muscles we use to smile lift the face, making a person appear younger. Don’t go for a face lift, just try smiling your way through the day — you’ll look younger and feel better. Easy “plastic surgery”!
  9. Smiling Releases Endorphins, Natural Pain Killers and Serotonin
Studies have shown that smiling releases endorphins, natural pain killers, and serotonin. Together these three make us feel good. Smiling is a natural drug.
  10. Smiling Helps You Stay Positive
Try this test: Smile. Now try to think of something negative without losing the smile. It’s hard. When we smile our body is sending the rest of us a message that “Life is Good!”

Stay away from stress, depression and worry by having a smile on your face…

One last comment…

Please remember that it is okay and normal to feel “down” and miserable at times! Don’t turn your back on it. Use the feelings to get to the root of your distress. Take it as a warning that you need to get calm and quiet and do some “inside” work…

Start with a body scan to identify tension…

Then get to work breathing correctly for further stress control…

And I cannot speak highly enough of the benefits of meditation for getting in touch with myself and managing stress!

If you are hurting from a recent death or loss, have a look at our bereavement stress page to understand what you are going through.
